Ok, Moved the comment again.. :D

I think I have lost the plot here with the jumping, forums work so much better than blogs for this sort of stuff.

Which scripts work/don't work for you?
Which OSs were involved for each script?
Which OSs Worked/ Didn't work?

If you could post the info to the relevent blog posts that would be best for me to track, I'd rather work on 1 script at a time.

I should point on the original script has never worked properly for me so I can give limited help on it.

I'm sure you know but you can sort of speed up the detection process by runnning hardware scans on the machines you are testing on.

Actually the last comment was meant to be for http://ninet.org/2010/03/sccm-get-dell-warranty-info/ :)
I have already tested this on couple of Dell servers with no success. However, since posting the last comment, I have also tested this on my desktop and it has actually worked - I was able to see my machine when I ran the report.
My machine is running Windows 7. One of the servers is running Windows 2008 R2 and the other is Windows 2003 - All 64-bit OS's.

Lat, I moved your comment as you put it in the wrong post. :D

If you uncomment lines 71 & 72 of the script, they will echo the directory that the csv file should be being created in.

Most likely it is %temp%

What OS are you using to test the script?

If you had the very original working then:
http://ninet.org/2010/03/sccm-get-dell-warranty-info/

should just work for you..

It is the original script broken down into functions & procedures and tweaked for the "new" layout of the dell site.

The script in this post is intended to be a work around for those of us that cannot use the original script due to security/configuration restricitions

Hey Ryan,

Been following your blog for a while with a great interest.
I just wanted to implement your script to our SCCM server as we are a Dell house, thinking it will be extremely useful for us to be able to view warranty status of our servers.
Previously, we had the very original script up and running from S Kisseinger's site and recently noticed that it was not working anymore. So a quick google pointed me to your web site.
I have everything setup as instructed and it is not seem to be working for me.
To start with I am running the script manually to create the log files and understand how it all works. I can get the c:\windows\logs\SCCM-Dell_Warranty_Info file created and it has an info:
9/6/2010 11:10:00 AM,Main,,Script starting
9/6/2010 11:10:00 AM,getServiceTag,,Service Tag: J****
9/6/2010 11:10:00 AM,Main,,Getting Dell Page from Web
(Is this all you're supposed to see?)

My main question is, I cannot get the c:\warrantyInfo.csv created?! Although script seems to run fine as I get no errors, I have no idea what is going on. (I have changed Const TOFILE = to TRUE within script).
Is there anything else you can recommend that I can do?
Many thanks and keep up the good work.

No update yet sorry. I am the only person in work that manages this stuff and we just went through a merger which has doubled our size, so I haven't even looked at it recently.

There may be an interesting article on OSD localisation coming up as I am working on that at the moment.

The known issues section outlines what I think the problems could be, so feel free to debug and update me if you find the actual problem and/or solution.

I haven't tested but in theory this should work fine on XP (most likely the user will need local admin). It's the security model in Vista/7 that are foiling all of the potential work arounds I can think of.

Chad,

First of all, sorry for the delay in response, I have been studying for my CCNA so haven't had time to post.

This isn't a script this is a report in sccm. What you could do is look at the other warranty posts. I have thought about what you have suggested, and yes it is possible to do in vbs. I just have not had time to sit down and do it.

What I would do is;
Loop through sccm and grab all the service tags you can (or run a report dump to csv).
Using vbs (or any scripting language) loop through the csv file pulling hostname and tag.
Use http libraries to connect to the dell site with the service tag.
Parse the html pulling the details and dump them to a csv.

Most of the code for this is on the site you just need to put it together.

We are also a dell shop. I'd love to use this script for looking up service tags after I pull my SCCM reports.

I'm having issues getting this to work. Instead of having it use a prompt value, could this pull from a .csv file and then return the results in a .csv?

Awesome works exactly as advertised. This will make management freak and make them glow in the dark...making them easier to hide from always a good thing!

@Phil,

The error is caused by "shortlist" being empty.

stick "wscript.echo shortlist" above that line and you'll see.
